Abstract

The present study provides preliminary analysis on the feeding and
reproductive characteristics of Onychostoma lepturum. The gastrointestinal
structure of O. lepturum is long gut with an average RLG value ranges
between 4.94 – 5.05, which is suitable for the herbi-omnivore fish. The food
composition of O. lepturum includes 4 main types, algae, insects,
crustaceans and organic detritus. The difference in the reproductive organs
of males and females are clearly visible. Histological specimens of the
gonads can clearly and accurately distinguish the developmental stages of
the gonads. The maximum GSI values were recorded in April and the GSI
values were the lowest in October for males and females respectively.
