Growth Patterns and Condition Factors of Crazy Fish (Butis butis Hamilton, 1822) in the Cikaso River, Sukabumi, Indonesia
The Cikaso River is a lotic aquatic ecosystem stretching for ± 60km in the southeastern Sukabumi Regency, West Java region. The people of Sukabumi widely know the Cikaso River as one of the large rivers with rich biodiversity of fish resources. Crazy fish (Butis butis) is a fish species in the Cikaso River. Crazy fish are generally obtained as bycatch, especially in glass eel capture fisheries. However, crazy fish are pretty popular with the local community as a fish for consumption. Until now, research on biological aspects, especially the growth of crazy fish in the Cikaso River waters, has not been widely conducted. This study aimed to describe aspects of growth patterns and condition factors of crazy fish in the Cikaso River, Sukabumi, West Java. Sampling of crazy fish in the Cikaso River was executed for one full year from January to December 2021 using trap fishing gear. A total of 527 crazy fish were successfully collected with a length range of 67-227mm. Analysis of the relationship between total length and weight of the crazy fish produces the equation function W = 0.006 L1.8902 with a relationship determination of 98.76%. A logistic curve slope value of 1.8902 (b<3) indicated a growth pattern of crazy fish that is more dominant in length growth compared to weight growth (negative allometric). The value of the condition factor of crazy fish ranges from 0.89 to 1.27. The highest condition factor value is at the start of the dry season in May, and the lowest is at the start of the rainy season in October.
