Capture Fisheries Business Analysis of Handline Fishing Fleet at Palabuhanratu Nusantara Fishing Port, Indonesia
Handline is a small-scale capture fisheries business unit found at the Palabuhanratu Nusantara Fishing Port, Sukabumi, Indonesia. The Central Statistics Agency for Capture Fisheries of Sukabumi Regency reported a decreasing trend in the number of handline fishing fleets, with a 2.4% annual decline over the last 10 years. The decrease in capture fisheries fleets can indicate a decline in business productivity from a capture fisheries business unit. This study analyzed the business conditions of small-scale handline capture fisheries with ship sizes <5GT. Data were collected using survey and interview methods with each handline capture fisheries business actor at the Palabuhanratu Nusantara Fishing Port. Income data were obtained from production records and the selling value of the catch of handline capture fisheries business actors. The fixed and variable costs were derived from direct information from handline business actors. The study results revealed that capture fisheries business actors are highly dependent on the conditions of the fishing season. The average monthly profit sharing analysis shows that the income of each capture fisheries business actor is 12,579,658 ± 4,222,510 IDR/month for the ship owner, 5,031,863 ± 1,689,004 IDR/month for the ship captain, and 2,515,932 ± 844,502 IDR/month for each crew member. The income value of each capture fisheries business actor was compared against the average monthly income for active fishermen in Sukabumi Regency, which is 3,480,000 IDR/month, and the average income value of the Sukabumi Regency area, which was 3,125.44 IDR/month in 2023. The comparison results show that ship owners and ship captains from handline business units have monthly incomes above the average income of the local area. Meanwhile, the crew still have monthly incomes below the local area's average income.
