Assessment and Monitoring of Water Quality in Mueang Chang Canal Under the Influence of Oil Drilling
This study assessed the water quality in the Mueang Chang Canal area, supporting oil drilling activities in Kong Kai Sala District, Sukhothai Province, Thailand, by evaluating both surface water and groundwater. The results showed that the Thailand Water Quality Index (WQI) classified surface water quality as excellent, with 40 parameters, including temperature, turbidity, pH, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, and metals. Except for iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn), all parameters were within acceptable limits for aquatic life and local residents. Groundwater quality was evaluated using 30 parameters, with all meeting the relevant standards. The Thailand WQI for the area ranged from 73.6 to 90.2, averaging 86.4 (good). These findings underscore the importance of adhering to environmental prevention and monitoring measures outlined in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for oil drilling activities.
